If you are interested in booking me (Wesley Fryer) for a presentation or workshop (either face-to-face or over video) please visit my Speaking page on www.speedofcreativity.org/speaking.

Update 25 August 2010:

In 2010 I am transitioning to the website wiki.wesfryer.com for my handout and presentation/workshop links. I'm not taking content here on PBworks offline, but I have added this "update header" to all my pages as well as adding direct links to more updated versions of these pages as I mirror them / create them on wiki.wesfryer.com. There are 146 pages here on teachdigital.pbworks.com. - You can browse these in page view in addition to using the four category links provided on the homepage. Note this wiki was previously mapped to "handouts.wesfryer.com" but that domain mapping is no longer available.

Stay updated on my latest posts by following me on Twitter, my blog ("Moving at the Speed of Creativity") and Facebook.

Cyberbullying and Internet Safety

Bullying has always been a problem with young people inside and outside of schools, but interactive Internet technologies have provided a digital/virtual forum for these activities and issues. This session explores cyberbullying problems, resources, and potential ways schools, communities, and leaders can address these issues. Internet safety discussions should involve more than just saying DANGER! DANGER! We need ongoing digital dialog to promote ethical decisionmaking and the constructive use of powerful digital technologies.

Video clips related to this topic are linked on my "Videos for Professional Development page" under the heading "Cyberbullying Prevention, Internet Safety, Safe DSN."

  3. According to the Pew Research Center, 20 million kids between the ages of 12 and 17 use the Internet, almost 87% of all US teens. Of those, 60% say they have been contacted online by a stranger, and 15% admit to lying about their age to gain access to an adult web site (including one out of five boys surveyed). Almost half (45%) of teens have used the Internet to post or send photos of themselves. In addition, new research shows the Internet is a growing gathering place for “marginalized” teens engaged in self-injury and other harmful practices. In these online communities, such behavior is often normalized.
